Woods Hole, located on the southern tip of Cape Cod, is one of the eight villages that make up the Town of Falmouth. Public transportation and the Shining Sea Bike Path link Woods Hole to downtown Falmouth and other Cape Cod destinations. The Cape Cod National Seashore and other attractions on the outer Cape are within easy reach for day trips.
Beaches, waterfront restaurants, the shopping district, and the ferry to Martha's Vineyard are a short walking distance. Also nearby are the scientific institutions that make Woods Hole a destination for travelers from throughout the world. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) offer tours and operate visitor's centers with gift shops. The National Marine Fisheries Service has a free aquarium featuring marine life collected in nearby waters. Museums in the village highlight Woods Hole's history as an early whaling port.
